Sunny Badger was made by Danette Laate from shimmering gold lip mother of pearl.  It has bright blue turquoise eyes and four turquoise dots on its back. In the center is a Sunface made of inlaid red coral, turquoise, and jet.  The stripe on the back is detailed as well as the face, claws, and tail.  We love how its head is tilted as if listening for where its next meal is coming from. "DL" is engraved on the bottom.

In the Zuni tradition badgers are the guardians of the south which is associated with new beginnings.  Badgers are diligent and fierce; you would not want to mess with one!  They are creatures of both the world underground where their dens are, and the world on Mother Earth’s belly where they live to hunt.  

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
